Festive Appeal: Stand up for survivors’ safety

Help us to stand up for survivors' safety this festive period!

By our collective powers combined, we can create spectacular things for all wāhine and women in Aotearoa.

This year, we showed what’s possible when we speak truth to power. Together, we pushed back against systems that are increasing gender-based violence. Stalking and harassment are now formally recognised in law as serious crimes.

This is feminist change that will save lives. However, on its own, passing the law doesn’t protect victim-survivors. We need to keep the pressure on, and continue the fight for stalking-informed police training; independent stalking advocates for victims, and violence prevention through education. We need your help to keep up the mahi!

Regular giving is the most powerful way to support Auckland Women’s Centre’s mahi. It helps us plan ahead, stay independent, and keep our work bold, loud, and community-led. In other words, a lot of people donating a little goes a long way- for women’s safety, wellbeing, and equity.

Alternatively, a one-time donation, (especially at this time of year!), is extremely well-received. We know the holiday season is challenging for our community in many ways – it also can be excruciating for people experiencing stalking. Every donation, large or small, makes a difference.

  • A $100 gift covers a letter to a political decision-maker
  • A $150 gift covers a meeting with allies
  • A $200 gift sustains our fight for trauma-informed police training; specialist stalking advocates; and prevention education in schools.

So, thank you for standing in solidarity with women & gender diverse communities, through your koha.

I chose to donate because I really admire what the women’s centre has been doing for all wāhine for 50 years and I want to see that work continue.

I think in this political climate its so vital we have community-led services available so those most vulnerable are able to get the support they need. I just hope more people are able to learn about AWC so they know they’re not alone.

Your Donation = Your AWC Membership

Every contribution is a feminist act of awhi, care, and courage and every dollar helps us keep creating change for generations to come.

So when you set up a regular donation to us, you can also choose to become a member of Auckland Women’s Centre. As a member, you’ll have a real voice in shaping our future, including voting for our Governance Board at the AGM. It’s also a meaningful way to support the Centre. We ask nothing more (and you won’t receive any more emails than previously!) but you’ll receive one annual invitation to our AGM.

Membership renews each year through your donation – if you make a one-off donation we will be in touch to check if you’d like to continue into the following year.

Regular donors (like our Fab 500!) have ongoing membership automatically.

If you’d prefer not to become a member, simply untick the box when you donate. If you have more questions, or would like to update an existing donation/membership, contact becca@womenz.org.nz –  we’d love to help you find a way to support the Centre that’s right for you.
