Dee Petit

Dee was born in the USA in a small town south of Detroit Michigan with creativity being a big part of her life. She has embraced extensive creative play in weaving, pottery, floral creations, cooking, preserving, sewing and for the past 15 years Dee has had a love affair with recycled textile art projects. She teaches a sewn textile art technique using recycled material & clothing, old woollen blankets, wool, ribbons, lace and silk to create shawls, wall hangings, floor rugs, table runners, and pillow covers that are sewn by machine with soluble plastic keeping artwork intact and then immersed in boiling water, dissolving plastic, leaving a masterpiece right in the hands of the creator.

She teaches youth, adults, elderly and people with disabilities the joys of art in many forms. From tissue paper flowers to hand sewn hearts and one of a kind wall hanging, she adores stitching memories of time together with students and fibre.

Dee is the Founder/CEO of Shiloh Creative Life Centre Charitable Trust with creativity being one of the four foundational pillars.

Feedback from Dee's previous participants:

“It has been an exciting opportunity to bring new techniques, form and structure into my passion for creativity, and love of textiles, and colour. The unique processes taught have given me lasting tools to continue my passion for creativity on my own and to also share this with others.”

“I loved taking part in Dee’s textile art making workshop… Dee was so helpful with suggestions, especially when it was all new to me and when the choices were overwhelming, she narrowed it down which helped steer me in the right direction.  I had so much fun, and I love how we reuse and upcycle fabric that would otherwise may end up at landfill. I would definitely do one again.”

“Dee kept eye on everyone so if anyone needed help, or asked for an advice or recommendation she was there for us. I liked that everyone was doing the project in its own rhythm according to own abilities. No pressure that I was slow or didn’t keep pace with the group…. Energy was very friendly, peaceful, safe and Dee made sure everyone feels welcome and included.”
