Social Media Lead (Contractor, 15 hours per week)
We’re expanding our friendly local feminist team to include an election-year social media project contractor!
This is an opportunity (approx. 15hrs pw on average – negotiable – at $60phr contract rates until Dec 2026) for a savvy, creative digital campaigner to shape and grow the Centre’s online awareness-raising, ensuring our voice supporting women’s rights, safety and empowerment is heard nationwide this election year.
Responsibilities include creating fresh, eye-catching, resonant and lively content (including creating/editing some video) that makes systems-change engaging to new audiences including rangatahi; collaborating on engagement & campaign strategies; managing posting schedules; helping to upskill Centre staff; and responding to our online communities and ensuring they feel heard and celebrated. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to intersectional feminism, trans rights and te Tiriti o Waitangi, an ability to collaborate, and an ability to be flexible/ occasionally responsive in a timely fashion to developing news stories. You will have experience in social media account management, content creation and analytics.
This is a hybrid contract position until December 2026, working in our lovely office at least 7 hours a week. We welcome applications from all diverse communities. Te Wāhi Wāhine o Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland Women’s Centre provides neighbourhood awhi and nationwide voice, as a vibrant feminist community centre offering care, classes, and community events as well as collaborative advocacy for gender equity. We strive to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
The ideal applicant will have the following attributes:
- An understanding of, and commitment to, the philosophy and mahi of the Centre, including Te Tiriti o Waitangi and intersectional feminism.
- An understanding that trans women are women.
- Proven professional experience creating social media across multiple platforms
- Strong creative skills in social-media content creation, editing and repurposing
- Up-to-date with current social media trends and a deep understanding of the online world
- Strong writing skills and the ability to adapt tone of voice for different platforms and audiences.
- Proven design skills (e.g. using Canva)
- Skills in short-form video creation, including tiktoks and reels, and a knowledge of platform-specific video best practices
- Proficiency with social media management tools and analytics platforms
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and interpret directions and messaging briefs into appropriate content, and to offer constructive guidance to colleagues about social media creation
- Ability to manage basic content scheduling
- Reliability and ability to respond in a timely manner on occasion
- The ability to work with a small group of women in a community-based organisation in a collaborative way.
- Availability for part-time contract work, with flexibility as campaigning schedules require
