Learn and apply techniques such as various texture stitches; cables; knitting in the round; and colour work

Build on your skills and learn techniques such as various texture stitches; cables; knitting in the round; colour work including fair isle and intarsia.

This series of workshops is for those who have mastered the basics of knitting and wish to extend their skills. Students must be already able to cast on; knit garter and purl stitch; increase stitches; bind off; and follow basic knitting pattern instructions.

Our multi-talented tutor Barbara Woodman offers two courses for Intermediate-level knitters.

  • A standard, eight-week course. Designed for people who have done the beginner’s course, or has some knitting skills already.
  • A four-week Intermediate Knitting: summer tee course. Designed for people who have done our Intermediate course before, or has substantial knitting skills.

Come along to either course if you know how to:
💫 knit garter and stocking stitch, including:
💫 casting on and binding off
💫 increasing and decreasing
💫 following simple knitting pattern instructions

Barbara Woodman

Barbara Woodman is a multi-talented tutor who is passionate about waste minimisation and creativity. She runs workshops through her social enterprise Warm Hearts Upcycling, whose purpose is to minimise textile waste. She teaches one to one or groups in traditional skills such as knitting, crochet, sewing, applique, mending, remaking.

As part of her community commitment she works with refugee women to develop their income and social connection.

Enrolments for Intermediate Knitting: Summer Tee

Our Community Education courses run on a sliding scale payment model. You can choose which price bracket you can afford to contribute, for example if you are in full time employment you are encouraged to pay the full amount, and if you are receiving a benefit perhaps you can contribute less. This system is designed to make our courses as accessible as possible.
