Auckland Women’s Centre is committed to providing safe, confidential, affordable and effective counselling for women in Auckland.

All AWC counsellors are fully qualified, professionally supervised and belong to a professional body.

Sessions are by appointment and cost between $40 and $80 taking account of your income. We do not have EFTPOS or credit card facilities sorry. Please bring cash for each appointment.

Please respect our counsellors and this service by giving us at least one working day for cancellations. Cancellations less than one working days’ notice can expect to be charged for the appointment.

If you are a student counsellor, unfortunately, we do not offer placements here as we do not have the staff resources available to mentor/supervise students. Thank you for thinking of us and best of luck with finding a placement at an appropriate agency.

Jane Tyrer 

Jane Tyrer has worked as a counsellor, social worker and in a range of social service roles for the last 30 years.  She enjoys supporting people to navigate their way through difficulties, clarify their values and strengths and find enthusiasm for new possibilities.  She believes that Counselling is a respectful, negotiated process that highlights skills, resources and insight and that it can offer a place to explore challenges from fresh perspectives and facilitate positive change. 

Jane has helped women through all sorts of issues including relationship and parenting concerns, depression, anxiety, stress, disordered eating and body image issues and abuse. Counselling can be optimistic and hopeful without minimising the very real difficulties and challenges that people face.

Jane holds a Diploma in Holistic Counselling (Holos Institute) and a Graduate Diploma in Narrative Counselling (Unitec).  She is a Member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (MNZAC), to view her website, go to janetyrer.com

Jane offers daytime appointments within the $40-$80 sliding scale and some after hours appointments at the rate of $80.

Sarah Lowe - ACC Registered Psychologist

BSc (Hons), MSC (Applied Psychology)

Sarah joined our team in July 2015 and is particularly interested in providing ACC counselling for victims of sexual abuse or sexual assault.  She is experienced in a range of issues including Trauma and Abuse; Sexual Offending/Sexualised Behaviours; Anxiety and Depression; Parenting difficulties and other psychosocial and environmental difficulties including school and occupational problems and is skilled in assessing and providing therapeutic intervention for Adults, Youth and Children.

Sarah works in a collaborative way with clients and their families while integrating a range of approaches and modalities tailored to reflect the client's needs. She helps individuals to develop skills and strategies to enhance their wellbeing and values the opportunity to be involved in that client's journey. Her experience of working closely with the Police, Child Youth and Family and DHB's helps Sarah provide support for those clients and their families who have complex health, forensic and care and protection needs.  

Sarah is a full member of the NZPsS (New Zealand Psychological Society).
